Lionsgate Announces Mistborn Movie
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Lindsey Lohan to Star in New Fantasy Epic Mistborn
Monday, March 31, 2008 – Lionsgate Entertainment has announced their newest fantasy venture, hot on the heels of the news that Rob Zombie will direct the new Conan movie. Their latest project is a vehicle for megastar Lindsey Lohan, who will be playing the role of plucky street urchin Vin in a live action adaptation of the popular Mistborn novels.
“Ever since Lord of the Rings made a jillion dollars, I’ve wanted to be a part of a fantasy epic,” says Lohan. “When it turned out there were no women in The Hobbit, I told my agent to find the next best thing. Mistborn is apparently a big deal, and my agent assures me that Vin is a strong female character. She’s really a role model for young girls, just like me, so I see a lot of myself in the part.”
Audiences are likely to see a lot of Lohan in the part as well, due to some directorial changes to the story. “The Mistborn are like magic ninjas, which is awesome” says director Brett Ratner, “but there’s a few things that just aren’t filmable about the way they’re presented in the book. Mistcloaks, for example—instead of wearing skintight black ninja suits, they wear these big flowing capes that make them harder to see in the mists at night. Obviously our audiences will want to see as much of Lindsey as they can, especially at night, so we’re thinking of maybe a Mist Mini Skirt. A Mist Thong, maybe—it’s still up in air. It’s going to be awesome, though.”
Rounding out the cast are Christopher Lloyd as Clubs, Danny DeVito as Ham, Tony Danza as Breeze, and Judd Hirsch as Khelsier. The part of the love interest, Elend, will be played by Mexican-American sensation John Leguizamo, and the villainous Lord ruler, a dark god who rules the world, will be played by Bronson Pinchot. The Lord Ruler’s bevy of Steel Inquisitors—cold-hearted assassins as beautiful as they are deadly—are still being cast, but early rumors point toward Jessica Biel, Megan Fox, and a CG representation of Ginger Rogers, circa 1936.
“It’s a great cast, and a great merchandising opportunity,” says Ratner. “This Christmas, ash will fall from the sky.”
