Recording challenges, or lack therof Issue the firste... People think conventions are hard to get into. I got a press pass because I was from TWG and it wasnt really that hard. All you need is a buisness card, and a boatload of recording equipment... but the payoff is huge, more on that later. Issue the second... Conventions are NOISEY. I was obsessed with sound quality and terrifed I was taking horrid audio. I now know I have an awesometacular mic. Also I found out that the press folks were AWESOME. Yes they needed caps, first of all they had free snacks, second of all they gave me an office to record in. Cool, youbetcha. Issue the thirde... Talent... I have little  but Stacy and Candice brought enough in spades. So yeah it worked out and I hate to say it but I made it seem easy. I think I just got really lucky, but hey luck counts right. The only thing I don't like is the end which is abrupt, but I had to cover a lot and editing wasn't being my friend. Just an FYI Episode recording times for the two Podcasts so far a little over an hour each, editing time 4 hours per episode. printing buisness cards and arranging meetings and stuff about 1.5 hours for about 11.5 hours of time total. Fun hunh? Any questions or ideas folks? |

Well, I suppose I have to ask you here since you are not answering your messages. However, ericnjeff, or probably more a question for Jeffe, what program do you use for editing your podcast? I'm sure it's one that's specific for your mac, so are there any other programs out there that you'd recommend?

I use Garageband a program in my mac's iLife suite. Its nice. But you could use Audacity... thats a great program and its free.

The best audio editor under $1000 on PC or Mac is Sony Vegas (it does video too but not as well as Final Cut) and that's what I use ($600 for audio/movie/DVD editing), there is a cheaper version for $60 that my sister has and really likes but not as powerful--though most people don't even need what you get in the pro version. The biggest limitation of the $60 version is the number of tracks you can have (3 audio and 3 video) but unless you're using a mixer or something that's recording different sources as separate tracks that shouldn't be an issue for the average podcast.
I've used Audacity too, there are some nice quick tools to do rough sound cleanup in it which is nice.

i use wavepad ( https://secure.nch.com.au/cgi-bin/register.exe?software=wavepad ) for my audio editing needs. It's a cheap ($38) and simple program. I mostly use it just to clip the ends off mp3s that have crap on the end I don't think is relevant tot he song or to separate "hidden track" songs from the main song without the 5 minutes of silence. The version I use is freeware, though there is a "masters" version that the $38 charge applies to. I'm not sure what features I'm missing, but again, i"ve not done anything complicated: just what I mentioned above and recording audio going through the computer (to get film quote clips in my mp3 mix). It does both of those and saves in a bunch of formats. I wouldn't use this for professional music editing, but for simple stuff, it's all I need, and it's *free* It would probably be sufficient for a podcast, imo. |
