TWG Development Blog

RSS comes to TWG. Finally. [Updated]

A lot of people have been asking for them so I’ve started to add RSS feeds to TWG, this is something I've been wanting to add for years and I'm quite surprised it took me this long to get to it. Now right now this is for blogs and front page blurbs only, to get an RSS feed for departments requires me to change how the site handles how article are approved and posted, it’s a system that was never designed to do this so problems can happen when you try to create a feed. It’s not complicated work, I already have the changes mapped out, but there is some significant work that I have to do so it will probably be a week until I get that working. Ok so it took a little less time to work out then I thought so the main page is up too. This doesn't display the blurbs that Nessa writes because the blurbs aren't linked to the article in any way, shape or form, I whould like to use the Blurbs incase we ever post a non-artile blurb but that would require linking the two togethor which means I'd probably end up making Nessa do all that via the submission forum. This way is much simpler and works for the most part, also I'll be adding deparments sometime so watch this space and I'll let people know.

To use the RSS feeds you can click on the orange Icon under Syndication below the search box or if your browser supports RSS feeds (which most do) you’ll see your feed button light up.

Right now the only feeds that are auto announced are the main blog feed, if you’re viewing a specific blog post or listing—such as this one—that blog’s RSS feed will also be announced.

I didn’t want all possible feeds to be announced by default because there could be a lot and I don’t want that clutter, which is why I made the RSS feed page.
